Scholarships and Programs

Homestay

Students experience firsthand the culture and daily life of a host family and local community in the Czech Republic for four weeks. Upon their return, our student ambassadors share their experience with local church clubs, trade groups, senior centers, and civic and fraternal organizations.

CHF Scholarship Fund

The Czech Heritage Foundation Scholarship Fund aids undergraduate and graduate students who have completed at least one year of post-secondary education. The scholarship is available to Iowan students of Czech or Slovak descent.

Czech School

Students aged 5-13 spend the summer learning about Czech history, culture, and language. Classes are taught by students from the Czech Republic and by members of the local Czech community. At the end of the school term, students work with their teachers to prepare and present a final program to the local community.

Educational Kits

Educational kits are available to help educate the public, especially children, about Czech and Slovak heritage. These kits are available at the National Czech Slovak Museum and Library and at the Cedar Rapids Educational Service Center. Each kit comes as trunk filled with different themed items that represent Czech culture.

Parades and Promotions

The goal of the parades and promotions committee is to present an image of Czech identity within the Cedar Rapids community and surrounding area. They currently enter floats, convertibles, and decorated vehicles in many parades within a 20 mile radius of Cedar Rapids. The committee hopes to extend the public image of the Czech Heritage Foundation further within the local, state, and international communities.
