Svaty Mikulas to Visit Czech Village
Svaty Mikulas will be visiting Czech Village and other Cedar Rapids venues December 6th for a Czech Christmas celebration.

Temporary Meeting Place - November 11
The CHF will be having this month’s meeting at 7:00pm at the Bohemian Cafe & Pub, 16th Avenue NE, across from Polehna's, Cedar Rapids, IA.

Radoslav Kvapil Benefit Concert
Radoslav Kvapil, a famous Czech pianist, will be performing a benefit concert at 8:00pm on October 30 with all proceeds funding flood recovery efforts of both the CHF and the NCSML. Tickets are $20. The concert will be held at the Scottish Rite Building, 616 A. Avenue NE Cedar Rapids, IA.

Flood of 2008
As many know, Cedar Rapids has been dealing with the effects of a large flood that damaged nearly all parts of the city including Czech Village and the surrounding Czech community. The CHF was not immune to the flood, losing many records, equipment, and artifacts. Photos of the flood and damage in Czech Village and the surrounding community can be viewed

2008 Scholarship Recipients Named
Four students have been named to receive $750 scholarships from the CHF to support their pursuit of a university education. Winners are Emily Ingalls, Coe College; Elizabeth De Hoedt, Iowa State University; Tera Edmunds, University of Northern Iowa; and Jessica Sauer, Georgetown University.

Miss Czech-Slovak Iowa 2008-2009 and Little Sister Crowned
At the annual Houby Days Festival Samantha Hubler was crowned Miss Czech-Slovak Iowa 2008-2009 along with little sister Carly Mark. Samantha will represent the CHF and the state of Iowa in the national pageant held in Wilber, NE the first weekend in August.

New Prince and Princess Crowned
Ben Morrissey and Sarah Sindelar were crowned the 2008 Czech Heritage Prince and Princess at the annual CHF meeting. Those included in this year’s royal court are: Holly Stepanek, Andrea Cada, Nicole Novak, Samantha Wehr, and Zoe Wolter.
